We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Finance Assistant to join a busy finance team within a well-established charity based in Ilford. This part-time role offers an initial 3–6 month temporary contract with a strong possibility of becoming permanent and potentially increasing to full-time. The Finance Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the finance function, focusing on income processing, reconciliations, and transactional finance duties.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • \n

    Income & Banking:

    \n
      \n
    • Accurately process and post income received across various streams such as donations, grants, and service income.
    • \n
    • Allocate income to the correct cost centres and funding streams.
    • \n
    • Perform regular bank reconciliations, investigating and resolving discrepancies.
    • \n
    • Monitor incoming funds and ensure timely and accurate recording.
    • \n
    • Liaise with internal teams regarding income allocation queries.
    • \n

    Accounts Receivable & Credit Control:

      \n
    • Raise and issue sales invoices in a timely manner.
    • \n
    • Maintain the sales ledger and support with credit control.
    • \n
    • Actively chase outstanding payments and manage debtor queries.
    • \n
    • Allocate incoming receipts to the correct invoices.
    • \n
  • \n
  • \n

    Accounts Payable:

    \n
      \n
    • Process supplier invoices, ensuring correct coding and approval workflows.
    • \n
    • Assist with payment runs.
    • \n
    • Handle supplier queries efficiently.
    • \n
  • \n
  • \n

    General Finance Duties:

    \n
      \n
    • Support month-end processes including journals and reconciliations.
    • \n
    • Maintain accurate financial records.
    • \n
    • Assist with audit requirements and reporting.
    • \n
    • Provide ad hoc finance and administrative support as required.
    • \n
  • \n

Required Skills & Qualifications:

\n
    \n
  • Previous experience in a Finance Assistant / Accounts Assistant role.
  • \n
  • Strong experience with income processing, posting income, bank reconciliations, accounts payable, and receivable.
  • \n
  • Solid understanding of double-entry bookkeeping.
  • \n
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • \n
  • Confident using Excel and finance systems.
  • \n
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • \n
\n

Desirable:

\n
    \n
  • Experience within the charity / not-for-profit sector.
  • \n
  • Understanding of restricted vs unrestricted income.
  • \n
  • Experience with accounting packages such as Sage, Xero, or similar.
  • \n
\n

Additional Information:

  • 3 days per week (flexible on which days).

  • Initial 3–6 month temporary assignment.
