Hays are delighted to be partnering with a leading social housing organisation to recruit an experienced Fleet Manager. This is a key leadership role responsible for the strategic and operational management of a large and diverse fleet function, ensuring full legislative compliance, operational efficiency, value for money, and continuous service improvement. Working across a complex organisation, you will lead fleet operations, manage significant budgets and contracts, drive sustainability initiatives, and ensure the highest standards of driver and vehicle compliance.As Fleet Manager, you will be responsible for the overall management, governance and performance of the organisation's fleet operations, ensuring compliance with all statutory, regulatory and safety requirements.Key responsibilities will include:

• Providing management oversight, compliance assurance and strategic leadership of the fleet service.
\n
• Leading environmental sustainability initiatives and supporting fleet decarbonisation objectives.
\n
• Managing vehicle procurement, replacement and disposal programmes to meet operational requirements.
\n
• Developing and implementing fleet policies, transport procedures and driver handbooks in line with relevant legislation and industry best practice.
\n
• Managing fleet management systems, telematics platforms and vehicle tracking solutions.
\n
• Overseeing vehicle maintenance contracts and supplier performance management.
\n
• Managing driver compliance processes, including licence checking and grey fleet arrangements.
\n
• Monitoring and reporting fleet performance through key performance indicators, including costs, utilisation, accidents and driver behaviour.
\n
• Managing fleet budgets and expenditure, ensuring effective financial control and value for money.
\n
• Building strong relationships with internal stakeholders, insurers, regulatory bodies, police authorities, leasing providers and maintenance contractors.
\n
• Leading and developing the Fleet Administrator while supporting wider operational teams.
\n
• Conducting fleet compliance audits and vehicle assurance inspections.
\n
• Deputising for the Head of Fleet, Health & Safety as required.
\n

What You'll Need to Succeed

To be successful in this role, you will have:

\n
• Extensive experience managing a medium-sized fleet operation across multiple departments.
\n
• Significant knowledge of fleet management legislation, compliance and best practice.
\n
• Experience managing vehicle maintenance, leasing and supplier contracts.
\n
• Commercial motor insurance experience within a fleet environment.
\n
• Strong budget management experience.
\n
• Procurement and project management experience.
\n
• Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills.
\n
• A commercially focused approach with strong analytical capabilities.
\n
• High attention to detail and commitment to compliance.
\n
• Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and fleet management systems.
\n
• The ability to manage competing priorities within a fast-paced operational environment.
\n
