\nLocation: SheffieldSalary: £31,616 + sleep-in allowanceContract: Full-time, permanent (including evenings, weekends, and sleep-ins)
\n\nWe are recruiting for a Senior Residential Support Worker to join a children’s residential service supporting young people with complex needs.
\nThis role involves working closely with the management team to deliver high-quality, child-centred care, ensuring a safe, supportive, and structured environment where young people can develop and thrive. You will also take on shift leadership responsibilities and support the wider staff team.
\nKey Responsibilities
\nLeadership & Team Support
\n- \n
- Support the management team in the day-to-day running of the home \n
- Contribute to staff induction, mentoring, and development \n
- Promote a positive, child-focused and trauma-informed culture \n
- Act as a role model, maintaining professional standards and boundaries \n
- Ensure young people’s voices are heard and reflected in their care \n
Shift Leadership
\n- \n
- Lead shifts, ensuring effective staff deployment and communication \n
- Take responsibility for the home in the absence of senior management \n
- Oversee daily logs, handovers, incident reports, and documentation \n
- Ensure safe, consistent care delivery throughout each shift \n
Safeguarding & Compliance
\n- \n
- Follow safeguarding procedures and report concerns in line with policy \n
- Support compliance with Children’s Homes Regulations and Quality Standards \n
- Ensure accurate and timely recording of all safeguarding matters \n
- Promote a culture where staff feel confident to raise concerns \n
Support & Care Delivery
\n- \n
- Build positive, trusting relationships with young people \n
- Support emotional, social, and behavioural development \n
- Promote independence, resilience, and life skills \n
- Use trauma-informed approaches to manage behaviour effectively \n
House & Operational Duties

- Contribute to maintaining a safe, clean, and homely environment \n
- Assist with care planning, risk assessments, and rotas \n
- Support audits and quality improvement processes \n
- Attend training and development opportunities \n
Additional Responsibilities

- Work flexibly, including evenings, weekends, and sleep-ins \n
- Provide additional cover where required \n
- Undertake other duties appropriate to the role \n
Requirements
\nQualifications
\n- \n
- Level 3 (or above) qualification in Children & Young People (or equivalent / working towards) \n
- Full UK driving licence (desirable) \n
Experience
\n- \n
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a children’s residential setting \n
- Experience with safeguarding and child protection \n
- Experience supporting children with EBD, trauma, or challenging behaviour \n
- Strong understanding of recording and reporting procedures \n
Skills & Knowledge
\n- \n
- Good understanding of child development and trauma-informed care \n
- Strong leadership and communication skills \n
- Ability to manage risk and respond to incidents calmly \n
- Strong relationship-building skills with young people and professionals \n
- IT literacy \n
- Awareness of Ofsted standards and inspection frameworks (desirable) \n
