Job Description

Our client based in Birmingham is seeking an experienced Part-Qualified Management Accountant with Payroll experience to join their business in Birmingham. The role is paying circa £40-50k (DOE), and requires 5 days in the office per week.

What you'll do:

  • Prepare monthly management accounts for both the main entity and associated group businesses owned by senior stakeholders, ensuring accuracy and timeliness throughout all reporting cycles.

  • Manage the purchase ledger function efficiently by maintaining clear records and supporting smooth supplier relationships across multiple business units.
  • \n
  • Complete VAT returns in accordance with HMRC requirements, ensuring compliance and minimising risk for the organisation while keeping up-to-date with regulatory changes.
  • \n
  • Administer payroll using Payroll software, handling all aspects from data entry to reporting while providing support to colleagues with queries as needed.
  • \n
  • Oversee month-end processes including reconciliations, journal entries, and comprehensive reporting to ensure financial integrity across all entities within the group structure.
  • \n
  • Support year-end accounts preparation by collaborating closely with external auditors and internal stakeholders for seamless completion of statutory filings.
  • \n
  • Maintain general finance compliance responsibilities such as statutory filings, regulatory adherence, and internal controls to uphold high standards of governance.
  • \n
  • Utilise Aria ERP system for accounting operations, ensuring data accuracy and process efficiency throughout the finance function while adapting quickly to new software tools.
  • \n
  • Work collaboratively with the Accounts Manager on day-to-day matters while reporting overall progress to senior management for transparent communication.
  • \n
  • Provide ad hoc financial support to smaller businesses within the group as required, adapting quickly to changing priorities during busy periods such as year-end.

What you bring:

  • Proven experience performing as either a Finance Manager or Management Accountant within any sector such as manufacturing, public sector, retail, automotive or distribution is highly desirable.
  • \n
  • Comprehensive understanding of management accounts preparation including monthly reporting for multiple entities ensures you can deliver accurate results under time constraints.
  • \n
  • Demonstrated ability to manage month-end close processes efficiently while maintaining attention to detail during periods of increased demand such as year-end.
  • \n
  • Ownership of profit & loss statements with responsibility for accurate reporting and analysis enables you to contribute meaningfully to business performance reviews.
  • \n
  • Experience administering payroll functions; familiarity with Iris Payroll is preferred but not essential as training opportunities are available.
  • \n
  • Strong track record supporting year-end accounts preparation alongside external auditors or internal teams demonstrates your dependability during critical periods.
  • \n
  • Expertise in general accounting operations including purchase ledger management and VAT returns compliance ensures smooth workflow integration across all entities.
  • \n
  • Ability to use ERP systems for accounting tasks; quick learner when adapting to new software tools supports ongoing process modernisation efforts.
  • \n
  • Excellent interpersonal skills enabling effective collaboration within small teams and across wider business units fosters an inclusive workplace culture.
