Director - Special Credits (EMEA)
Job Description
We are working with a leading international bank on the appointment of a Director - Special Credits (EMEA) to lead the management of stressed and distressed credit exposures across the region. The role sits within a dedicated special credits/workout function and will have significant visibility with senior management and regulators.
\nThe opportunity:
\nLead the oversight and active management of a portfolio of stressed and distressed corporate and institutional credits across EMEA.
\nShape workout and restructuring strategies that protect the bank's position while supporting viable business turnaround where appropriate.
\nAct as a key point of contact for senior stakeholders, including risk, front-office coverage teams, legal and external advisers.
\nKey responsibilities:
\nMake balanced, timely and well-reasoned credit recommendations and decisions within delegated authority, ensuring alignment with the bank's risk appetite.
\nLead or participate in negotiations with borrowers, lender groups, shareholders and advisers to deliver optimal restructuring and recovery outcomes.
\nDevelop and implement workout strategies for under-performing, high-risk and non-performing exposures, maximising recovery while managing reputational, conduct and regulatory risk.
\nProvide clear, concise reporting to senior management and relevant governance committees on portfolio trends, emerging risks and case progress.
\nCoach and develop more junior team members, helping to build a high-performing EMEA special credits team and strong succession bench.
\nWhat we're looking for:
\nSignificant experience (typically 10+ years) in corporate credit risk, restructuring, special credits/special assets or workout within a major bank or comparable institution.
\nProven track record of leading complex restructuring, recovery or workout situations, ideally including multi-bank or cross-border cases.
\nStrong financial analysis skills and the ability to quickly assess business viability, capital structure and recovery options.
\nExcellent negotiation, stakeholder-management and communication skills, with confidence engaging senior executives, boards and external advisers.
\nSound judgement, resilience and the ability to make decisions under pressure in fast-moving, sometimes uncertain situations.
