Road Freight Operator
Job Description
Job Purpose
\n\nTo manage the day-to-day operation of international road freight shipments, ensuring the efficient movement of import and/or export cargo across Europe and the UK. The role requires excellent organisational skills, strong customer service, and the ability to liaise effectively with customers, carriers, overseas partners, and customs authorities to ensure shipments are delivered on time and in compliance with all regulations.
\n\nKey Responsibilities
\n\nPlan and coordinate international road freight import and/or export shipments.
\nBook collections and deliveries with approved hauliers and transport providers.
\nLiaise with customers, overseas agents, and suppliers regarding shipment status and requirements.
\nArrange customs clearance and ensure all documentation is accurate and compliant.
\nPrepare and process shipping documentation including CMRs, commercial invoices, packing lists, and customs entries where applicable.
\nMonitor shipments from collection through to final delivery.
\nResolve operational issues, delays, and customer queries promptly.
\nNegotiate rates with transport providers and maximise operational profitability.
\nEnsure all shipments comply with HMRC, Border Force, and international transport regulations.
\nMaintain accurate records within the transport management system.
\nInvoice customers and verify supplier costs where required.
\nBuild and maintain strong relationships with customers and transport partners.
\nMeet departmental KPIs for service, profitability, and operational efficiency.
\n\nSkills & Experience
\n\nEssential
\n\nPrevious experience in international road freight operations (import and/or export).
\nGood understanding of European road freight services.
\nKnowledge of customs procedures and post-Brexit documentation.
\nStrong communication and customer service skills.
\nExcellent organisational and time management abilities.
\nAbility to prioritise multiple shipments in a fast-paced environment.
\nCompetent in Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook and Excel.
\nExperience using freight forwarding or transport management systems.
\n\nDesirable
\n\nExperience with CDS customs entries.
\nKnowledge of groupage, full load (FTL), and part load (LTL) operations.
\nADR or hazardous goods awareness.
\nAdditional European language skills.
\n\nMonday - Friday 09:00am - 17:30pm
