Assistant Management Accountant
Job Description
Reed Accountancy are currently assisting an established client in the West Sussex area in the recruitment of an Assistant Management Accountant to join their small team. Reporting to the CFO this role will manage the day-to-day transactional finance functions and progressively take on the production of monthly management accounts. This role is ideal for someone who combines hands-on accounts processing skills with a keen interest in management accounting and systems automation. You will be instrumental in maintaining and enhancing the automated processes and reporting that underpin our finance team, with a clear path toward evolving into a full management accounting role.
\nDay-to-day of the role:

Transactional Accounting and Month-end Tasks:\n
- \n
- Complete month-end reconciliations including supplier ledger, sales ledger, nominal ledger, and trial balance. \n
- Prepare and process payment runs, manage company credit cards, petty cash, and employee expenses. \n
- Perform bank allocation and posting, manage credit control, and handle related queries. \n

Management Accounting:\n
- \n
- Post journals, accruals, prepayments, and adjustments, and complete account reconciliations. \n
- Assist in producing monthly management accounts and prepare VAT and Plastic Packaging Tax returns. \n
- Provide variance analysis and maintain a short-term cash flow forecast. \n
- Business-partner with departments to control and report on budgets. \n

Systems, Automation, and Process Improvement:\n
- \n
- Maintain and improve finance team's automated processes and routine reporting. \n
- Utilise accounting systems to their full capabilities and build tools to streamline reporting. \n
- Automate repetitive tasks to improve accuracy and efficiency. \n

General Responsibilities:\n

- Present management accounts insights to the wider business. \n
- Undertake other finance duties as required, adapting to business needs. \n

Required Skills & Qualifications:
\n- \n
- Part-qualified (AAT, CIMA, ACCA, or ACA) or qualified by experience, with robust knowledge of double-entry. \n
- Proven experience with month-end processes, reconciliations, and ledger management. \n
- Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, and building reporting tools). \n
- Experience with accounting systems and a strong interest in finance process improvement. \n
- Excellent communication skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. \n
- Some previous experience in management reporting and variance analysis is highly desirable. \n
- Familiarity with group and subsidiary reporting and automating reporting or accounting system configuration. \n
- Driver with own car, as the role is office-based and may require occasional travel. \n
