Accounts Payable Manager

I am working with a well-established and growing engineering business based in the Barnsley area. They are now looking to appoint an experienced Accounts Payable Manager to lead their purchase ledger function. Managing a small team, this role is primarily focused on leadership, team development and overseeing the smooth running of the department. While the position is less transactional than a traditional Accounts Payable role, you'll also be happy to support with day-to-day processing whenever required, leading by example and ensuring the team continues to deliver a first-class service.

Key Responsibilities

• Managing, supporting and developing a small Accounts Payable team
\n
• Overseeing the day-to-day running of the purchase ledger function
\n
• Monitoring workloads and ensuring invoices and supplier payments are processed accurately and on time
\n
• Reviewing and improving accounts payable processes and controls
\n
• Supporting the team with supplier query resolution and escalations
\n
• Ensuring compliance with company procedures and financial controls
\n
• Producing reports and KPIs for senior management
\n
• Working closely with the wider finance team and other departments
\n
• Assisting with month-end activities and reporting
\n
• Providing hands-on support with purchase ledger processing, reconciliations and payment runs as required
\n

About You

The successful candidate will have:

• Previous experience in an Accounts Payable Supervisor or Manager position
\n
• Proven experience leading, motivating and developing a finance team
\n
• Knowledge of purchase ledger processes and controls
\n
• The ability to balance leadership responsibilities with a hands-on approach
\n
• Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills
\n
• Strong communication skills and the ability to develop effective working relationships
\n
• Good systems knowledge, including accounting software and Microsoft Excel
\n
