Head of Health & Safety

Kenneth Brian Associates are partnering with a leading refurbishment and fit-out contractor who are seeking an experienced Head of Health & Safety to lead H&S, fire safety, and temporary works governance across a complex project portfolio.

This is a senior leadership role with Board exposure and the authority to stop works where serious risk is identified. The successful candidate will provide strategic oversight while maintaining a strong visible presence across live construction sites.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the company’s ISO 45001 aligned H&S Management System
\n
• Oversee CDM Principal Contractor duties and Temporary Works governance
\n
• Lead fire safety compliance in line with legislation, JCOP, and insurer requirements
\n
• Drive audits, assurance activities, incident investigations, and continuous improvement
\n
• Work closely with operational teams across sites, promoting a proactive safety culture
\n
• Challenge unsafe behaviours and commercial pressures where necessary
\n
• Report on risk, compliance, and performance at senior leadership level
\n

Requirements

\n
• Level 6/7 qualification in Occupational Health & Safety
\n
• CMIOSH or working towards Chartership
\n

Strong knowledge of:

\n
• CDM Regulations 2015
\n
• Building Safety Act 2022
\n
• Fire Safety legislation
\n
• Temporary Works / BS 5975
\n
• Experience within construction, ideally refurbishment or fit-out
\n
• Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
\n
• Comfortable being site-based regularly and engaging directly with project teams
\n
