Technical Underwriter

Location: Leeds, Manchester, or Birmingham Salary: Competitive + bonus + excellent benefits

We are partnering with a leading specialist insurer to recruit a newly created Technical Underwriter position within their established Care division.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced underwriter to take on a highly technical and influential role, supporting one of the insurer's largest and most strategically important portfolios.

Working closely with senior leadership, you will act as a technical expert across the Care portfolio, supporting underwriting decisions, portfolio management, governance activity and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical underwriting expertise across complex and high-value Care risks.

• Support referral activity and underwriting decision-making across the team.
\n
• Analyse portfolio performance, trends and underwriting outcomes to identify opportunities and risks.
\n
• Contribute to underwriting governance, audits and control frameworks.
\n
• Assist with product development, wording enhancements and underwriting strategy.
\n
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives and support the implementation of underwriting best practice.
\n
• Collaborate with underwriting, distribution and operational teams to support profitable growth.

Skills & Experience

\n
• Strong technical underwriting experience across commercial insurance.
\n
• Background in Care, Commercial Combined, Property, Liability, Financial Lines or a related class.
\n
• Confident handling complex risks, referrals or senior-level underwriting decisions.
\n
• Good understanding of underwriting controls, governance and portfolio performance.
\n
• Strong communication skills with the ability to influence, challenge and support others.
\n
• Collaborative, commercially minded and comfortable working with senior stakeholders.
