This apprenticeship is a genuine opportunity to begin a career in People Operations, combining hands-on experience and mentoring with formal training towards a nationally recognised qualification. You'll provide structured, accurate support to the People function, with a particular focus on the School's HR Information System (HRIS – iTrent) and the smooth day-to-day running of People operations.What you'll be doingHRIS development, maintenance and optimisation\n

- Support the build and configuration of the HRIS (iTrent), including modules such as employee records, absence, onboarding and training \n
- Assist with system testing, data migration and validation during development phases \n
- Maintain data quality through regular audits, reconciliations and error correction \n
- Help create and maintain standardised workflows, including onboarding, contract changes and approvals \n
- Contribute to monthly and ad hoc reporting, such as headcount and absence trends \n
- Maintain clear process guidance and documentation for HRIS activities \n

- Keep employee records accurate, complete and up to date \n
- Maintain the Single Central Register in line with statutory safeguarding requirements \n
- Ensure data is handled in line with GDPR and School policy \n
- Audit digital and paper employee files to keep them inspection-ready \n
- Support internal and external audits by preparing and validating data \n
- \n
- Support the full employee lifecycle: onboarding (contracts, pre-employment checks, system setup), in-life changes (promotions, pay changes, contract amendments) and offboarding (leavers processing, exit documentation, system updates) \n
- Carry out safer recruitment checks, including references and DBS \n
- Support People Partners in managing key timelines such as probation reviews and appraisal cycles \n
- Support payroll through accurate, timely submission of data changes \n
- Manage and triage the People inbox, responding to or escalating queries appropriately \n

- Carry out repeatable administrative processes with consistency and accuracy \n
- Support documentation and improvement of standard operating procedures \n
- Identify and propose solutions to inefficiencies \n
- \n
- Strong digital capability and confidence working with systems (e.g. Excel, databases, HR systems) \n
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy, particularly with data entry and validation \n
- Comfortable with repetitive, process-driven tasks requiring consistency \n
- Highly organised, able to manage multiple workflows and deadlines \n
- Strong written and verbal communication skills \n
- A methodical, structured and disciplined approach to work \n
- A strong sense of accountability for data quality and outputs \n
- Discreet and trustworthy when handling confidential information \n

- An interest in HR systems, data or process improvement \n
- Knowledge of databases and the ability to manipulate data \n
- Previous experience in an administrative or data-focused role \n
- An understanding of data protection principles \n
- Experience in the school or education sector \n
