This is an excellent opportunity for a tax investigations specialist to join a highly regarded firm working on complex and interesting HMRC disputes, with significant client exposure and the chance to play a key role in the business's continued growth. The successful candidate will manage a portfolio of high-value and technically complex tax investigations, advising clients throughout the enquiry process and developing effective strategies to achieve successful resolutions.
Key Responsibilities\n- \n
- Managing complex HMRC tax investigations from initial enquiry through to settlement. \n
- Leading HMRC Code of Practice 8 (COP8) and Code of Practice 9 (COP9) investigations. \n
- Advising clients on disclosures, information requests, settlement negotiations, penalties, and compliance issues. \n
- Liaising directly with HMRC investigators and negotiating outcomes. \n
- Drafting technical correspondence, reports, and submissions. \n
- Building strong relationships with clients, intermediaries, and professional advisers. \n
- Supporting the wider team with technical expertise and contributing to the firm's continued growth. \n

- Strong experience in UK tax investigations and dispute resolution. \n
- Demonstrable COP8 and COP9 experience is essential. \n
- Proven ability to manage investigations independently and deal directly with HMRC. \n
- Excellent technical understanding of tax enquiries, disclosures, settlements, and HMRC procedures. \n
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex issues clearly to clients. \n

- Previous experience working for HMRC, particularly within specialist investigations, Fraud Investigation Service (FIS), or compliance teams, is highly desirable but not essential. \n
- Professional qualification (CTA, ACA, ACCA or equivalent) would be advantageous. \n
- Experience advising high-net-worth individuals, business owners, partnerships, trusts, or privately owned companies. \n
