Advanced Head & Neck Oncologic Surgery and Microvascular ReconstructionFellowship

Our organization is actively looking for a fellow specializing in Advanced Head & Neck Oncologic Surgery and Microvascular Reconstruction within the Department of Otolaryngology. This one-year surgical program offers extensive exposure, with the possibility of a two-year commitment based on the fellow's career goals and research interests. Participation in mission electives is highly encouraged.

Currently, there are eight full-time fellowship-trained Head & Neck surgical oncologists at our institution, five of whom perform microvascular reconstructions. Additionally, two oncologic surgeons are based at our VA facility. The fellow will benefit from the expertise of two endoscopic skull base surgeons, three facial plastic/reconstructive surgeons, and three laryngologists, enhancing their overall experience. The fellow will engage in advanced cases, including major head and neck ablative surgeries, microvascular reconstructions, TOLMS/TORS, endoscopic skull base procedures, open/craniofacial surgeries, advanced trauma cases, and complex skin cancer reconstructions. A balanced experience in both ablative and reconstructive surgery is essential, with the fellow's preferences influencing the specific case mix. The fellowship also encompasses participation in thyroid and parathyroid surgeries, including minimally invasive approaches, re-operative procedures, and surgeries for non-localizing diseases.

The fellow will collaborate with faculty at our institution, assisting in various cases. They will have the autonomy to select their cases with minimal oversight from mentors, ensuring a fellow-directed and well-rounded experience. Teaching residents during surgeries and engaging in limited research activities are expected. If desired, the fellow may also assist at the VA or county hospital for specific cases.

This fellowship does not involve any call or clinic responsibilities; it is solely focused on surgical experience. A California Medical License is a prerequisite.

The starting base salary for this position ranges from $90,000 to $104,000, depending on years of experience and faculty rank. This figure does not include variable compensation or additional productivity bonuses and is subject to the specific compensation plans of the department.
