Job Description
Position Summary
The Engineer II / Project Manager Engineering II is responsible for managing capital engineering projects from initiation through completion ("cradle to grave").
These roles support either base capital projects at existing generation facilities (natural gas and coal) or strategic capital initiatives involving large, complex projects such as renewable energy systems and major infrastructure upgrades.
Both positions require strong technical engineering knowledge combined with project management expertise to ensure safe, cost-effective, and timely project execution.
Lead full lifecycle project management including scope development, execution, and closeout
Validate project justification and ensure stakeholder requirements are incorporated into scope
Manage project budget, schedule, quality, and safety performance
Coordinate procurement activities including hiring engineering consultants, contractors, and ordering materials/equipment
Oversee project execution and conduct periodic field visits to monitor progress
Ensure compliance with contract requirements for vendors, contractors, and suppliers
Review and support design documentation and engineering drawings
Conduct vendor/shop inspections and witness equipment testing when needed
Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, environmental, sourcing, project controls, and engineering teams
Facilitate project closeout and transition to operations teams
Hybrid work model with onsite presence typically Tuesday-Thursday (office or plant) and remote work typically Monday and Friday. Work hours are flexible and project-dependent.
Regular travel to plant sites around the greater Denver area. Occasional travel to plant sites outside the greater Denver area and vendor locations may be required.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or related discipline)
5-7+ years of engineering experience (preferred for Level II roles)
Minimum 2+ years of project management experience
Experience in utility, energy, or oil & gas industries preferred
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and SAP (preferred)
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
Ability to lead cross-functional teams and align stakeholders
Highly organized with strong prioritization and multitasking ability
Self-driven with initiative and accountability
Experience working in a matrixed organization
Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects
Preferred Certifications
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification
Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam completion
Project Management Professional (PMP) - nice to have
Professional Engineer (PE) - beneficial for long-term growth
