The Practice Opportunity
\nThe Bronx VA is seeking a board-certified Gastroenterologist for a primarily clinical position with an academic heart. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive GI consultations across inpatient and outpatient settings, perform general endoscopic procedures, and help lead a GI program affiliated with the Mount Sinai GI fellowship and Internal Medicine programs. This is an opportunity to deliver high-quality care to Veterans while shaping the next generation of physicians, with research opportunities available for those who wish to pursue them. Evening and weekend GI emergency call is shared equitably among the GI attending staff. \nDuties and Clinical Privileges

Provide inpatient and outpatient gastroenterology consultations.
\n - \n
Perform general GI endoscopic procedures, including esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) and colonoscopy, with demonstrated currency and proficiency.
\n - \n
Supervise and mentor GI fellows within the Mount Sinai-affiliated GI fellowship program.
\n - \n
Teach and precept internal medicine residents.
\n - \n
Participate in the shared evening and weekend call rotation for GI emergencies.
\n - \n
Contribute to clinical excellence, quality improvement, and - optionally - research aligned with the medical center's academic mission.
\n - \n
Maintain board certification, as VA physicians in academic training programs may be required to hold board certification for faculty status.

Qualifications

United States citizenship is required; non-citizens may be appointed only when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.

Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree from an allopathic or osteopathic medical school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
\n - \n
Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a state, territory, or commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
\n - \n
Completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program leading to eligibility for board certification.

Proficiency in spoken and written English.
