Job Summary:

Conducts diagnostic ultrasound imaging studies.

Key Accountabilities and Performance Criteria:

Essential Functions:

  • Ultrasound Procedures: Conducts ultrasound examinations following established departmental protocols. 60-75%
  • Patient Interaction: Clearly explains the examination process to patients and their families to ensure understanding and consent.
  • Patient Assessment: Evaluates the patient's medical, cardiac, or vascular status by taking a history prior to the exam.
  • Documentation: Assembles patient charts and enters information into the current PACS System or Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Imaging Records: Archives all imaging studies for review and interpretation by the Medical Director or designated personnel.
  • Billing: Completes patient billing to ensure accuracy and timeliness. 5%
  • Department Support: Contributes to departmental goals and objectives, including the development of new programs. 5%
  • Safety/Infection Control: Adheres to safety and infection control policies. 3-5%
  • Service Excellence: Provides high-quality care to patients in a respectful manner. 2-5%
  • Performance Improvement: Integrates quality assessment into daily tasks. 2-3%
  • Age-Appropriate Care: Delivers care suitable for various age groups. 1%
  • Specialized Care: Offers specialized care for high-risk patients. <1%
  • Operational Support: Assists in daily departmental operations. 1-3%

Rationale for Essential Functions

The execution of these functions is critical to the role. There are limited personnel capable of performing these specialized tasks, which occupy a significant portion of the employee's time. Failure to perform these duties may have serious implications.

Job Specifications

Minimum Education: Graduate from an accredited AS program in Medical Sonography or scheduled to graduate from an approved BS program with RDMS(AS) certification.

Minimum Experience: 2-5 years in abdominal, musculoskeletal, breast, and obstetrics/gynecology preferred.

Required Certifications: BLS upon hire, RDMS(AB) within 12 months of hire, and one additional certification.

Skills:
  • Administrative: Ability to compile statistics, manage paperwork for Medical Records, and utilize computer systems effectively.
  • Equipment: Proficient in using various ultrasound and Doppler equipment, EMR systems, and standard office equipment.
Working Conditions:

May encounter infectious diseases, bloodborne pathogens, hazardous materials, and unpredictable situations. Occasional exposure to unpleasant elements and emergency scenarios may occur.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift, position, push, and transfer patients (occasionally exceeding 350 lbs).
  • Periodic heavy physical effort (lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs).
  • Prolonged standing, walking, or sitting may be required.
  • Manual dexterity and mobility are essential.
Vision Requirements:
  • Ability to adjust vision for varying light conditions and focus on objects at close range.
  • Capability to distinguish subtle shades of gray and colors.
Hearing Requirements:
  • Ability to identify varying tones and pitches of audible signals.
