The role – a real “feel good” jobThis is one of those roles that offers an emotional lift for the person doing it and for the learners you support in equal measure. You genuinely make a difference to young people’s lives—helping them start the day feeling safe, calm and motivated, and ensuring they get home safely at the end of the day.It’s ideal for someone with life experience, maturity and the confidence to pass that on positively—someone who enjoys local driving (Doncaster to Scunthorpe), takes pride in doing a job properly, and values building meaningful relationships supporting the learner in a number of different ways throughout the day.About the learnersYou’ll be working with young people aged 16+ who have an Education, Health & Care Plan (EHCP) and a range of needsWhat you’ll be doingA Community Driver, you’ll play a key part in ensuring learners begin and end their day safely, positively and on time. Your responsibilities will include:\n

• Safely transporting learners to and from Skills Centre Plus sites, following agreed routes and schedules
\n
• Completing daily vehicle safety and maintenance checks in line with legal and organisational requirements
\n
• Taking responsibility for learner safety and safeguarding while in transit and throuought the day whilst offering support
\n
• Creating a positive start and finish to the learning day, helping learners feel safe, supported and motivated
\n
• Communicating professionally with centre teams, parents and carers when appropriate
\n
• Promoting positive behaviour and wellbeing during journeys
\n

What we’re looking forWe’re looking for someone dependable, calm and people-focused—someone who can be a reassuring, consistent presence for learners.You’ll likely be:\n

• A confident driver who enjoys local routes and is comfortable with regular travel between Doncaster and Scunthorpe
\n
• Naturally good at building rapport and creating a positive atmosphere
\n
• Safety-minded, punctual and proud of maintaining high standards
\n
• Mature, steady and able to handle sensitive situations appropriately
\n
• A clear communicator who works well with colleagues, parents and carers
\n

You’ll need:\n

\n
• A strong commitment to safeguarding and learner wellbeing
\n
• To maintain cleanliness and basic upkeep of the vehicle
\n
• To follow procedures and record/report issues accurately
\n
• A full UK driving licence
\n

What will make you stand out from the crowd (DONT WORRY IF YOU DONT TICK EVERY BOX):\n

\n
• MIDAS (Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme) certification (although not essential)
\n
• First Aid qualification
\n
• Previous experience working with young people with SEND
\n
• Experience in an educational or care environment
\n
• Basic mechanical or vehicle maintenance knowledge
\n
