Yard Operative & Forklift (Builders Merchant)

Our client is looking for a proactive and reliable Yard Operative who has a Forklift Licence to join their dedicated team based in Watford. This is a hands-on role ideal for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced, physically active environment and takes pride in delivering excellent customer service.

You will play a key role in supporting the smooth running of both the yard and store operations, ensuring stock is safely managed, customers receive expert assistance, and the site remains organised, efficient, and compliant with health and safety standards.

A valid Counterbalance Forklift Licence is essential for this role.

• Safely operate a counterbalance forklift to move and manage stock
\n
• Replenish, organise, and maintain stock levels across the yard and store areas
\n
• Assist customers with loading materials and provide product support where required
\n
• Support with paint mixing and product advice (full training provided)
\n
• Maintain a clean, tidy, and hazard-free working environment
\n
• Carry out regular equipment checks and report any faults or issues promptly
\n
• Follow all company health and safety procedures and policies
\n
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure efficient daily operations
\n
• Complete general yard duties, manual handling, and basic maintenance tasks as required
\n

The successful candidate will have:

• A valid Counterbalance Forklift Licence (essential)
\n
• Previous experience working within a builders’ merchant environment (essential)
\n
• Excellent communication and customer service skills
\n
• A positive, can-do attitude with the ability to work as part of a team
\n
• The confidence to work independently and use initiative
\n
• The ability to work in a physically demanding, fast-paced environment
\n
• A strong understanding of workplace health and safety requirements
\n
