\n

A leading Big Four firm is looking for a Tax Investigations Manager to join a specialist disputes team with a national client base and a genuinely flexible working model.

\n

This is a strong move for someone who enjoys HMRC enquiry work, tax investigations and dispute resolution, but wants more autonomy, direct Partner exposure and a better route into commercial client development. The role sits within a high-trust team where people are judged on output, not how often they can be seen near a desk looking professionally exhausted.

\n

As Tax Investigations Manager, you'll work directly with an impressive Partner and support a mix of corporate, owner-managed, private client and family office matters. Based Nationwide, the team has a strong internal network of clients and referrers, giving you the chance to build business development confidence without having to start from a cold market.

What you'll be doing\n
    \n
  • Managing HMRC enquiries, tax investigations and disclosure work
  • \n
  • Supporting corporate, entrepreneurial and private wealth clients
  • \n
  • Preparing technical correspondence, reports and settlement recommendations
  • \n
  • Working directly with the Partner on complex cases and client strategy
  • \n
  • Building relationships across the wider accountancy firm to support internal referrals
  • \n
  • Learning how to develop a pipeline in a structured, supportive environment
  • \n
What we're looking for\n
    \n
  • Experience in tax investigations, disputes, disclosures or HMRC enquiries
  • \n
  • A background in accountancy, specialist tax advisory, legal tax disputes or HMRC
  • \n
  • Exposure to corporate clients, OMBs, private clients or wealth-related matters
  • \n
  • Strong written communication and confidence dealing with HMRC
  • \n
  • Someone practical, commercial and keen to develop beyond pure delivery
  • \n
\n

Ex-HMRC candidates will be considered where there is genuine enquiry experience, particularly where you have dealt directly with taxpayers, agents and technical casework.

What's on offer\n
    \n
  • Salary up to £65,000
  • \n
  • Hybrid working across Nationwide
  • \n
  • Highly flexible, high-trust culture
  • \n
  • Direct reporting line into a Partner
  • \n
  • Strong internal client network to support business development
  • \n
  • Varied work across corporate and private client tax disputes
  • \n
  • Clear progression within a major accountancy environment
  • \n
\n

This Tax Investigations Manager role would suit someone who wants the quality of Big Four work, the flexibility of a national platform, and the chance to grow commercially without losing the technical work that made them good in the first place.

\n

Confidential conversations are welcomed from candidates across Nationwide with tax investigations experience in accountancy, HMRC or specialist advisory work.
