Bookkeeper & Payroll Administrator
\nSouthend-on-Sea Job Type: Full-time or Part-time, Permanent Salary: £27,000 – £30,000 (pro rata for part-time)
\nThe Opportunity
\nA well-established and highly regarded accountancy practice based in Southend-on-Sea is seeking a Bookkeeper & Payroll Administrator to join its friendly and supportive team.
\nThis is a varied, hands-on role offering exposure across bookkeeping, payroll, VAT, and accounts preparation. The position can be offered on a full-time or part-time basis (25–35 hours per week) and is fully office-based.
\nKey Responsibilities
\n- \n
- Bookkeeping for a varied client portfolio, preparing accounts to trial balance using Xero \n
- Processing client payrolls, including RTI submissions and pension filings \n
- Managing payroll services using BrightPay and Moneysoft \n
- Preparing and submitting VAT returns \n
- Assisting with client accounts preparation \n
- Supporting with ad hoc accounting and administrative tasks \n
- Building and maintaining strong client relationships \n
The Ideal Candidate
\n- \n
- Proven bookkeeping experience within an accountancy practice \n
- Strong working knowledge of Xero and other cloud-based accounting systems \n
- Payroll experience (BrightPay and/or Moneysoft preferred) \n
- Solid understanding of VAT and general accounting principles \n
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills \n
- Strong communication skills with a client-focused approach \n
- Ability to work independently and within a small team \n
- Experience with Iris would be advantageous \n
