Workshop Manager – Plant Hire\n

Ludlow Depot (SY8 3QF)

Monday–Friday, 42.5 hours per week

We are looking for an experienced Workshop Manager to lead the workshop team at our Ludlow depot.

\n

You will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the workshop, ensuring all plant and equipment is maintained, repaired, and fully compliant with safety and regulatory standards.

\n

This is a hands-on leadership role within a busy plant hire environment, overseeing a fleet including excavators, rollers, dumpers, pavers, loading shovels, and welfare units.

Key Responsibilities\n
    \n
  • Lead, manage and support the workshop team to deliver high-quality maintenance and repair services
  • \n
  • Plan and prioritise workload to ensure plant availability and minimal downtime
  • \n
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained in line with service schedules and legal compliance standards
  • \n
  • Carry out inspections and ensure all health, safety, environmental and quality procedures are followed
  • \n
  • Diagnose faults and support complex mechanical/electrical repairs where required
  • \n
  • Monitor workshop performance and drive continuous improvement
  • \n
  • Ensure accurate records are maintained for servicing, repairs and compliance
  • \n
  • Liaise with the Depot Manager and other departments to ensure operational efficiency
  • \n
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping, safety and workshop discipline
  • \n
What We’re Looking For\n
    \n
  • Strong background in plant maintenance / heavy equipment repair
  • \n
  • Previous experience in a supervisory or workshop management role (or ready to step up)
  • \n
  • Experience working with plant hire, construction equipment or similar fleet environment
  • \n
  • Good understanding of hydraulic, mechanical and electrical systems
  • \n
  • Ability to lead, motivate and develop a team
  • \n
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • \n
  • Good communication skills and a practical, hands-on approach
  • \n
  • IT literacy (Microsoft Office and maintenance systems)
  • \n
  • Full UK driving licence
  • \n
Desirable\n
    \n
  • NVQ Level 3 in Plant Maintenance, Engineering or equivalent
  • \n
  • Experience with compaction equipment, excavators, rollers, dumpers etc.
  • \n
  • Background in plant hire, construction, or agricultural machinery
  • \n
