Location: Norwich

Salary: £30,000 - £34,000

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Payroll Officer to join a well-established organisation in Norwich. This is a standalone payroll position, ideal for someone who enjoys taking ownership of the end-to-end payroll function while working closely with Finance, HR and operational teams.

\n

This role would suit a payroll professional who is highly organised, detail-oriented and confident managing payroll processes independently. You'll play a key role in ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time, while continuously improving payroll processes and maintaining compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the end-to-end monthly payroll process, ensuring accuracy and timely completion.\n

  • \n
  • Maintain payroll records, including starters, leavers, salary changes, contractual amendments and deductions.\n

  • \n
  • Process overtime, allowances, travel claims and other variable payments.\n

  • \n
  • Support pension administration, statutory payments, salary sacrifice schemes and payroll deductions.\n

  • \n
  • Prepare payroll checks, reconciliations and variance reports prior to payroll approval.\n

  • \n
  • Respond to payroll queries professionally and confidentially.\n

  • \n
  • Support the processing and administration of employee expenses and allowances.\n

  • \n
  • Prepare payroll journals, reconciliations and month-end payroll reporting.\n

  • \n
  • Produce payroll reports and analysis to support Finance and management.\n

  • \n
  • Maintain accurate payroll records in line with GDPR and internal controls.\n

  • \n
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll systems, processes and efficiencies.\n

  • \n
  • Work collaboratively with HR, Finance and operational managers while maintaining ownership of payroll accuracy.\n

About You

\n

We're looking for someone who has:

\n
    \n
  • Previous experience managing end-to-end payroll.\n

  • \n
  • A strong understanding of PAYE, National Insurance, statutory payments and pensions.\n

  • \n
  • Experience processing payroll with variable pay, including overtime, allowances and expenses.\n

  • \n
  • Excellent attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem solving.\n

  • \n
  • Strong Excel and systems skills, with experience using payroll and HR systems.\n

  • \n
  • The confidence to work independently while building effective relationships across the business.\n

  • \n
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to meet strict payroll deadlines.\n
