Financial Controller freight

An established and growing international freight forwarding company is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to take ownership of the company's day to day finance function.

This is a handson role suited to someone who enjoys working independently and has strong bookkeeping and financial control experience. You will work closely with the Managing Director, providing financial reporting and ensuring the smooth running of all accounting processes.

• Credit control and debt collection
\n
• Sending customer statements
\n
• Carrying out credit checks and setting credit limits
\n

• Processing and approving supplier invoices
\n
• Reconciling supplier statements
\n
• Preparing supplier payment runs
\n
• Managing overseas payments through FX accounts
\n
• Administering forward currency contracts (USD & EUR)
\n
• Reconciling bank accounts, HMRC deferment statements and other financial records
\n

\n
• Managing company cash flow
\n
• Daily transfer of financial data from Boxtop to Sage
\n
• Updating exchange rates within Boxtop
\n
• Monitoring and minimising foreign exchange losses
\n
• Preparing year-end accounts for external accountants
\n
• Reviewing statutory accounts prior to Companies House filing
\n

\n
• Producing monthly profit reports for the Managing Director
\n
• Preparing additional financial reports as required
\n

\n
• Preparing and submitting VAT returns
\n
• Supporting other statutory and HMRC requirements
\n

Please note: Sales invoices are prepared by the Operations team.

• Previous experience as a Financial Controller or Senior Bookkeeper
\n
• Strong all-round bookkeeping and accounting knowledge
\n
• Experience using Sage
\n
• Excellent reconciliation skills and attention to detail
\n
• Experience managing cash flow and financial reporting
\n
• The ability to work independently and prioritise workload
\n
• Strong communication and organisational skills
\n

• Previous experience withinfreight forwarding, logistics or shipping
\n
• Experience using Boxtop software
\n
• Knowledge of foreign currency transactions and forward contracts
\n
