This is an outstanding opportunity to lead a well-established payroll function, taking ownership of payroll operations for more than 7,000 employees across multiple UK payrolls while developing a talented team and driving continuous improvement.This is far more than a payroll processing role. You'll be the organisation's payroll subject matter expert, ensuring the highest standards of compliance, governance and service delivery while identifying opportunities to improve processes, strengthen controls and enhance the employee payroll experience.The RoleReporting into senior leadership, you'll lead an established team of six payroll professionals and oversee the accurate, compliant and timely delivery of a complex payroll operation.You'll play a key role in safeguarding the organisation's compliance with HMRC regulations and National Minimum Wage legislation, while ensuring payroll processes remain efficient, robust and fit for the future.Key Responsibilities\n

- Lead, coach and develop an established Payroll Team of six, promoting a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement. \n
- Oversee the end-to-end processing of multiple UK payrolls for more than 7,000 employees, ensuring accuracy, efficiency and compliance. \n
- Act as the organisation's subject matter expert for UK payroll legislation, HMRC requirements, PAYE, National Insurance and statutory payroll obligations. \n
- Lead governance around National Minimum Wage and National Living Wage compliance, proactively identifying and mitigating potential risks. \n
- Ensure accurate administration of statutory payments and deductions, including SSP, SMP, SPP and Student Loan repayments. \n
- Manage pension administration and automatic enrolment in line with legislative requirements. \n
- Maintain a robust payroll control framework to ensure data integrity, minimise risk and support audit requirements. \n
- Take ownership of HMRC submissions, including Full Payment Submission (FPS) and Employer Payment Summary (EPS) reporting. \n
- Oversee a high-volume, performance-related bonus function, ensuring accurate calculation and timely payment. \n
- Lead all year-end payroll activities, including P60s, P11Ds and statutory reporting. \n
- Produce payroll reporting and analysis to support informed business decision-making. \n
- Identify opportunities to improve systems, processes and ways of working, helping to drive operational excellence across the payroll function. \n

- CIPP qualification (or equivalent experience). \n
- Significant experience managing complex, high-volume UK payrolls. \n
- Strong working knowledge of UK payroll legislation, HMRC requirements and payroll compliance. \n
- Experience leading and developing payroll teams within a fast-paced environment. \n
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to manage competing priorities. \n
- A proactive approach to process improvement, problem solving and stakeholder engagement. \n
