Step into a rewarding role dedicated to supporting student achievement as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired for the upcoming academic year. In this full-time, contract position, you will work with visually impaired students to ensure they receive the specialized supports and instructional materials needed to thrive in the school setting. This opportunity is based in the vibrant New Orleans area, with an assignment starting August 3, 2026, and concluding on May 27, 2027.

Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and certification in visual impairment required
  • Active Louisiana DOE certification, as well as licensure in candidate’s state of residence
  • Minimum three years’ experience in school-based settings (elementary, secondary, and/or special education)
  • Proven expertise with assistive technology for the visually impaired; ability to provide Braille instruction
  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Teletherapy experience and familiarity with orientation/mobility training preferred
  • Liability insurance required (1099 contract)
  • Ability to pass required drug screen and fingerprinting
  • Successful completion of a tech skills screening
  • Experience in Louisiana schools and at least one professional reference on file

Position Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct instruction to visually impaired students and collaborate with classroom teachers
  • Prepare and adapt reading materials in accessible formats
  • Facilitate the provision of special textbooks and resources
  • Offer in-service training to staff on best practices
  • Communicate regularly with the Louisiana Department of Education and other key stakeholders
  • Maintain meticulous records and adapt to additional duties as directed
