Job Description
Shape the future of students' communication skills as a Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant in the Birmingham area! This contract position runs from August 7, 2026, through June 10, 2027, providing an excellent opportunity to gain school-based experience and make a direct impact. Working on-site, you'll collaborate with educators and speech-language pathologists, contributing to the success and well-being of children across various school locations based on assignment needs.
Your primary duties will include delivering speech and language services under the supervision of a licensed SLP, assisting with assessments, documenting student progress, and supporting individualized education plans (IEPs). Candidates will be assigned caseloads at specific locations to best match student needs, so a passion for adaptability and teamwork is a must.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Completion of an approved Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant program
- Current ASHA certification
- ABSESPA licensure for Alabama
- Valid Professional Educator Certification
- Licensure specific to the SLPA role in Alabama, including state-required fingerprinting
- Prior experience in a school setting is highly desirable
- Strong communication, organizational, and collaboration skills
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in implementing therapeutic activities and interventions as outlined by supervising SLPs
- Work directly with students one-on-one or in small groups
- Monitor and document progress toward IEP goals
- Maintain accurate records and participate actively in school-based teams
- Communicate effectively with teachers, SLPs, parents, and other support staff
