Special Education Teacher | Morganton, North Carolina

This contract position is ideal for a dedicated Special Education Teacher passionate about individualized instruction and creating meaningful learning experiences. You’ll work in a collaborative environment with ample classroom support, focusing on students’ unique talents and needs.

Elementary Classroom Details:

• Caseload of 6 students with no behavioral needs
• Some toileting assistance required (no feeding needs)
• Supported by 1 Teaching Assistant and 1 Behavior Technician

Middle School Classroom Details:

• Caseload includes 11 students; only one student with a feeding tube, all others with no behavioral needs
• Some students require toileting assistance
• Supported by a full-time Teacher, 3 Teaching Assistants, and 1:1 support for the student with a feeding tube

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
• Foster a positive, nurturing classroom environment tailored to each student’s needs
• Collaborate closely with support staff and related service providers
• Assist with personal care tasks, such as toileting, as needed
• Maintain detailed records of student progress and communication logs with families
• Adapt lessons to accommodate a range of learning abilities

Qualifications & Experience:

• Valid Special Education teaching credential or eligibility to obtain one
• Prior experience with elementary and/or middle school students preferred
• Comfort with personal care tasks and a commitment to ensuring student dignity
• Strong collaboration and communication skills
• Flexibility, patience, and a commitment to inclusive education
