Job Description

Special Education Teacher for the 2026–2027 school year in Tappahannock, VA. This full-time position offers the opportunity to provide specialized instruction and support in a self-contained elementary classroom while making a meaningful impact on students with diverse learning needs.

This assignment provides the opportunity to work within a collaborative educational team focused on student growth, independence, and success.

Work Schedule:

  • Full-Time

  • 32 Hours per Week

  • August 10, 2026 – May 27, 2027

  • Onsite

  • Self-Contained Special Education Classroom

Qualifications:

  • Valid Virginia Special Education Teaching License/Certification required

  • Experience working in a self-contained special education classroom preferred

  • Strong communication, collaboration, and classroom management skills

  • Knowledge of special education compliance, IEP development, and implementation

  • Ability to create structured, supportive, and inclusive learning environments

  • Commitment to supporting students with diverse academic, behavioral, and functional needs

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialized instruction aligned with IEP goals and Virginia state standards

  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)

  • Collaborate with families, related service providers, administrators, and general education staff

  • Implement evidence-based academic, behavioral, and functional interventions

  • Support students' communication, social-emotional, academic, and daily living skills

  • Collect and maintain accurate student progress data and documentation

  • Participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team collaboration

  • Create a structured, positive, and inclusive classroom environment

Classroom Assignment:

  • 1st–4th Grade Self-Contained Special Education Classroom

  • Caseload of 14 Students

  • Full-Time, 32 Hours per Week

  • August 10, 2026 – May 27, 2027
