Job Description
Special Education Teacher for the 2026–2027 school year in Tappahannock, VA. This full-time position offers the opportunity to provide specialized instruction and support in a self-contained elementary classroom while making a meaningful impact on students with diverse learning needs.
This assignment provides the opportunity to work within a collaborative educational team focused on student growth, independence, and success.
Work Schedule:
Full-Time
32 Hours per Week
August 10, 2026 – May 27, 2027
Onsite
Self-Contained Special Education Classroom
Qualifications:
Valid Virginia Special Education Teaching License/Certification required
Experience working in a self-contained special education classroom preferred
Strong communication, collaboration, and classroom management skills
Knowledge of special education compliance, IEP development, and implementation
Ability to create structured, supportive, and inclusive learning environments
Commitment to supporting students with diverse academic, behavioral, and functional needs
Key Responsibilities:
Provide specialized instruction aligned with IEP goals and Virginia state standards
Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
Collaborate with families, related service providers, administrators, and general education staff
Implement evidence-based academic, behavioral, and functional interventions
Support students' communication, social-emotional, academic, and daily living skills
Collect and maintain accurate student progress data and documentation
Participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team collaboration
Create a structured, positive, and inclusive classroom environment
Classroom Assignment:
1st–4th Grade Self-Contained Special Education Classroom
Caseload of 14 Students
Full-Time, 32 Hours per Week
August 10, 2026 – May 27, 2027
