Special Education Teacher - Spruce Pine, NC

Make a meaningful impact as a Special Education Teacher in a contract role supporting both elementary and middle school classrooms. This rewarding opportunity is located close to Spruce Pine, NC, and designed for professionals dedicated to fostering growth and inclusivity in students with diverse developmental needs.

In the elementary classroom, you will guide a small caseload of 6 students, all of whom require toileting assistance but have no significant behavioral or feeding needs. Your team includes one teaching assistant and a behavior technician, ensuring you are well-supported every day.

In the middle school classroom, you’ll work with 11 students—including one student who utilizes a feeding tube. Most students need toileting support, and none present notable behavioral challenges. Your collaborative team consists of one teacher, three full-time teaching assistants, and a dedicated 1:1 staff member for individualized student support.

Qualifications:

• Valid Special Education Teacher certification
• Experience working with students requiring toileting assistance
• Familiarity with medically fragile students (feeding tube care experience preferred)
• Ability to adapt instruction and classroom routines to a range of learning and physical needs
• Strong communication, organizational, and record-keeping skills
• Positive and patient attitude, with the ability to collaborate well with paraprofessionals

Responsibilities:

• Deliver individualized and group instruction based on each student’s unique learning plan
• Monitor progress and complete necessary documentation per IEPs
• Oversee toileting routines, ensuring student dignity and safety
• Collaborate with teaching assistants and specialized staff to implement classroom strategies
• Support the integration of adaptive technology and positive classroom management strategies
• Communicate regularly with families and support teams
