Medical Assistant / Limited Scope X-Ray Operator (Pulmonary)

Position Type: Full-Time

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (Flexibility for 7:30 AM - 5:00 PM required based on physician schedules)

Position Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Assistant with Limited Scope Radiography Certification (LSO) to join our specialized Pulmonary outpatient care team. In this dual-function role, you will perform essential clinical assisting duties while capturing non-invasive, static chest X-rays to support the evaluation and treatment of adult pulmonary conditions.

The ideal candidate blends strong compassionate patient care skills with technical precision, adhering strictly to radiation safety and regulatory compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Diagnostic Imaging & Radiation Safety

• Perform non-invasive, static diagnostic chest radiographs (PA/Lateral views) for adult pulmonary evaluations in accordance with Tennessee Board rules.

• Apply strict ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) radiation safety standards, ensuring proper patient positioning, shielding, and utilization of automatic exposure controls.

• Ensure patient safety, comfort, and anxiety reduction by clearly explaining all radiographic and clinical procedures prior to execution.

Image Management & Compliance

• Process digital diagnostic images, performing initial quality control checks to ensure clarity and clinical utility before routing to PACS/EHR for physician review.

• Maintain accurate equipment maintenance, calibration, and quality control logs in compliance with state X-ray operator licensure requirements.

• Manage radiation protection monitoring tools (e.g., dosimeter badges) and maintain radiology records.

Clinical Patient Care & Support

• Escort patients to exam rooms, measure, and accurately document key vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, oxygen saturation) in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).

• Prepare patients for medical examinations and assist physicians during complex clinical evaluations or minor procedures.

• Administer physician-directed injections and medications; carefully monitor patients post-administration for adverse reactions.

• Conduct basic point-of-care laboratory testing and assist with relevant insurance coding/billing documentation.

Operations & Patient Education

• Educate patients on prescribed treatment plans, preventive care practices, and respiratory health management to improve patient outcomes.

• Maintain clean, organized, and fully stocked exam rooms and clinical spaces in compliance with infection control standards.

• Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary healthcare teams (physicians, mid-level providers, administrative staff) to maintain smooth patient flow and exceptional care delivery.

Qualification Requirements:

Required:

• Education: High School Diploma or GED.

• Medical Assistant Training: Completed Medical Assistant Diploma, Degree, or Certification (CMA, RMA, or CCMA).

• Radiography Licensure: Current Limited Scope Operator (LSO) or Limited Scope X-Ray Certification valid in the state of Tennessee.

• Basic Life Support: Active BLS/CPR certification.

• Screening: Must successfully pass a pre-employment nicotine screen and background check.

Preferred:

• 1+ years of experience in an outpatient Pulmonary / Respiratory clinical setting.

• Proficiency with digital X-ray equipment and Electronic Health Records (EHR) / PACS integration.
