Job Description
Step into a rewarding opportunity for the upcoming academic year as a Sign Language Interpreter supporting students at the elementary level. This contract position runs from August 3, 2026, through May 28, 2027, offering you a structured Monday through Friday schedule of 35 hours per week, 7:00am to 2:30pm each day. Working onsite, you’ll be an essential communication bridge for deaf or hard-of-hearing students, helping them access curriculum and thrive in the classroom environment.
What You’ll Need:
- Valid license as a Sign Language Interpreter (SLI)
- Minimum EIPA score of 3.5; alternatively, RID certification is accepted in lieu of EIPA
- Proficiency in American Sign Language and familiarity with educational settings
- Reliability and readiness to arrive before students each morning to ensure a smooth start
- Strong sense of professionalism, collaboration, and respect for student privacy
Your Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and activities for a single student at Troutman Elementary (caseload 1:1)
- Collaborate with teachers and educational staff to support student engagement and academic success
- Participate in student-focused meetings as needed, offering valuable communication insights for educators
- Support the student’s participation in both academic and social settings
- Uphold all confidentiality standards and ethical codes of interpreting
- Adapt interpretation style to meet student needs and classroom dynamics
