Special Education Teacher - Detroit, Michigan

Make a real impact supporting K–2 learners as a full-time Special Education Teacher with a focus on elementary-aged students with cognitive impairments. This contract opportunity runs from August 2026 through June 2027 and offers a rewarding setting to apply your expertise onsite. What We’re Looking For:

• Valid Special Education License with either Cognitive Impairment (CI) or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) endorsement
• Certification in CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention), or willingness to become certified and renew annually
• Experience working with elementary students in a special education setting, particularly those with cognitive or developmental disabilities
• Excellent communication, patience, and flexibility to collaborate with a diverse team and adapt to student needs
• Strong organizational skills for managing student records, IEPs, and day-to-day classroom operations

Your Day-to-Day Contributions:

• Deliver engaging, tailored instruction and interventions to K–2 students with cognitive impairments
• Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) in line with state and federal guidelines
• Collaborate with classroom teachers, paraprofessionals, and support staff to create a positive, inclusive environment
• Communicate progress and needs clearly with families and multidisciplinary teams
• Foster a safe classroom environment, prioritizing behavioral supports and utilizing crisis prevention techniques as needed
