Position Overview
The Respiratory Therapist provides comprehensive respiratory care services to both inpatient and outpatient populations ranging from neonatal to geriatric patients. Responsibilities include oxygen therapy management, ventilator support, diagnostic testing, arterial blood gas analysis, airway management, and respiratory treatments in accordance with physician orders and established clinical protocols.
The therapist works collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to provide safe, evidence-based respiratory care.
Education Requirements Required
- Associate Degree in Respiratory Therapy or related field
Required Certifications & Licensure Required
- Current Respiratory Therapist License in the State of Practice
- Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) Credential through the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
- BLS (American Heart Association)
- ACLS (American Heart Association)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- NICU Experience
Supplier Note: NRP/NICU experience is preferred but not required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and patient education skills
- Proficient computer and documentation skills
- Experience with electronic medical record systems
- Ability to work independently and within interdisciplinary teams
- Proficiency with Windows-based applications and keyboarding
Key Responsibilities Respiratory Care
- Perform routine and advanced respiratory therapy procedures
- Administer oxygen therapy and respiratory treatments
- Monitor and adjust ventilator settings as ordered
- Assist with ventilator weaning protocols
- Provide airway management and support
- Draw and analyze arterial blood gases
- Perform EKGs
- Conduct respiratory diagnostic procedures
- Accurately report results to appropriate providers
- Educate patients and families on respiratory treatments and procedures
- Provide instruction regarding disease processes and treatment plans
- Reinforce physician and care team recommendations
- Review and document patient assessments and treatments
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical records
- Ensure compliance with hospital and regulatory standards
- Maintain required certifications and licensure
- Attend department meetings and educational programs
- Stay current with respiratory therapy best practices and standards
