A self-contained cross-categorical classroom for 4th-6th grade students is seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher for the full 2026-2027 school year. This setting is thoughtfully designed for a manageable class size of 14, including learners with a wide range of needs: Intellectual Disabilities (ID), Other Health Impairments (OHI), Autism (AUT), Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD), and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).
You’ll work alongside a competent, inclusive team featuring two classroom paraprofessionals and an individual aide. This collaborative approach ensures every student receives the individualized attention required for personal growth and academic achievement.
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid Illinois PEL with LBS1 endorsement
- Previous experience in a special education classroom, preferably cross-categorical settings
- Demonstrated ability to support students with diverse disabilities, including ID, OHI, AUT, SLD, and TBI
- Strong team orientation—skilled at collaborating with paraprofessionals and support staff
- Proactive communicator with excellent classroom management skills
- Passionate about fostering independence, self-advocacy, and academic progress
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs)
- Plan and deliver engaging instruction tailored to students’ unique learning profiles
- Assess student progress regularly and modify strategies when necessary
- Collaborate with families, therapists, and administrators to optimize student outcomes
- Organize a safe, positive, structured learning environment
