Special Education Teacher in Independence, MO

A rewarding contract opportunity is available for a dedicated Special Education Teacher eager to make a difference in elementary education. As a Resource Teacher supporting students in grades K-4, you’ll work closely with around 15 students who require specialized instruction in Math and Reading due to behavioral and specific learning disabilities (BEH-SLD). This full-time position (30-35 hours per week) offers a chance to tailor instruction, foster growth, and help each child realize their full potential in a welcoming, team-focused atmosphere.

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

• Valid certification in Special Education
• Experience with elementary-aged students (K-4) preferred
• Expertise working with BEH-SLD populations, specifically in Math and Reading
• Comfortable developing and implementing IEPs, accommodations, and modifications
• Strong collaborative skills for engaging with colleagues, administration, and families
• Excellent communication, organization, and adaptability

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide resource room instruction and support in Math and Reading for students with behavioral and learning disabilities
• Design, implement, and monitor effective Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
• Collaborate with general education teachers to tailor curriculum and ensure student success
• Engage families in the educational process and communicate progress effectively
• Maintain accurate documentation of student performance and IEP goals
