Comparative Medicine Trainer
Job Description
Key Responsibilities
Provide hands-on training in study support techniques in mice and rats, identify training gaps, and coordinate rollout of global training programs while supporting vivarium operations.
Comfortable handling mice and rats safely and assessing pain and distress in the species.
Provide hands-on training (dosing, bleeding, anesthesia monitoring, etc.) to Comparative Medicine Husbandry technical staff as well as scientists e.g., ability to coach trainees with varying levels of experience.
Participate and assist in delivering classroom training sessions as well as attend recurring training meetings.
Assist with reviewing and revising Standard Operating procedures (SOPs), training modules and Computer Based training (CBT) modules.
Coordinate global training activities which includes scheduling and coordinating training sessions.
Serve and work along-side other trainers, subject matter experts, IACUC and veterinarians.
Data entry to include managing training records in the electronic management system and record review to ensure accuracy of records/catch discrepancies.
Support audits and inspections.
Assist with managing training colonies and maintaining animal and training records.
Collaborate with research units to develop new procedures under the guidance of Global Training leadership.
Up to 10% of travel
Qualifications
BS/BA with 2+ years
Experience in laboratory animal training and rodents
Knowledge of regulations (The Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals)
Strong professional communication skills and language skills, adaptable working style
Preferred: LATG certification
Pharmaceutical industry and/or lab animal training experience desired
Be able to lift up to 50 lbs., stand for long periods, excellent motor skills/eye-hand coordination, wear PPE and adhere to Environmental Health and Safety practices, including PPE (e.g. N-95 or PAPR use, work in a Biosafety Cabinet)
