Schedule
  • Shift: Day Shift
  • Hours: 3 × 12-hour shifts (36 hours/week)
  • Shift Time: 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM
  • Auto-Offer: Yes
  • Call: None
  • Weekend Requirement: Minimum 6 weekend shifts (Saturday/Sunday, day or night) every 6-week schedule
  • Holiday: Must be flexible to work holidays
Unit Overview
  • 40-bed Cardiac Surgery Stepdown Unit
  • Primary patient population includes:
    • CABG
    • AVR/MVR
    • Bentall procedures
    • TAVR
    • Thoracic surgeries (lobectomy, thoracotomy)
    • Esophagogastrectomy
    • AAA (open & endovascular)
    • Fem-pop bypass
    • Carotid endarterectomy
  • Also cares for medical cardiology overflow patients:
    • Heart failure
    • Chest pain
    • DKA
    • Sepsis
    • Heart block
Staffing
  • Approximately 100 staff members
  • Day Shift:
    • 1 Charge RN (typically out of staffing)
    • 13 RNs
    • 4 Patient Care Technicians (PCTs)
    • 1 Health Unit Coordinator (HUC)
  • Patient Ratios:
    • RN: 1:5
    • PCT: 1:13
Equipment & EMR
  • Baxter IV Pumps
  • CADD Epidural Pumps
  • Patient lifts
  • EMR: Cerner
Required Experience
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience
  • Stepdown experience (required)
  • Telemetry experience (required)
Preferred Experience
  • Recent (within 1 year) cardiovascular and vascular surgery experience, including:
    • Open heart surgery
    • TAVR
    • Lobectomy
    • AAA repair
    • Fem-pop bypass
  • CVICU experience
Common Skills & Procedures
  • Epidural management
  • Chest tube management
  • Tube feedings
  • Glucommander insulin protocol
  • Management of cardiac drips, including:
    • Phenylephrine
    • Dobutamine
    • Dopamine
    • Milrinone
    • Cardizem
    • Amiodarone
    • Insulin
    • Heparin
    • Nitroglycerin
    • Ketamine
Required Certifications
  • BLS
  • ACLS
Floating

May float to:

  • Stepdown units (1:5 ratio)
  • Medical-Surgical units (1:6–7 ratio)
  • Emergency Department inpatient holding area (1:6 ratio)
Dress Code
  • All navy scrubs
  • White top with navy bottoms
  • All white scrubs

  • Strong Stepdown and Telemetry background
  • Comfortable caring for post-operative cardiovascular patients
  • Team player who enjoys a fast-paced environment
  • Flexible and adaptable to floating as needed

This is an excellent Auto-Offer opportunity for experienced Stepdown/Telemetry nurses interested in caring for complex cardiovascular surgery patients at a high-acuity, nationally recognized hospital.
