Second Shift Lead - Manufacturing Operations

Springfield, VA

Monday - Thursday 2:00 PM - 12:30 AM (Friday OT as needed)

Position Overview

As the Second Shift Lead, you will oversee all manufacturing operations during the evening shift, ensuring production is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with quality standards. This role serves as the primary leader on second shift, supervising production personnel, coordinating daily operations, resolving production issues, and driving continuous improvement in a regulated manufacturing environment.



Key Responsibilities

  • Lead daily manufacturing operations to ensure production, quality, safety, and customer goals are consistently achieved.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop a team of approximately 7-8 production operators while fostering a positive and accountable work environment.
  • Coordinate daily production schedules and prioritize work to meet operational demands.
  • Monitor batch manufacturing processes, troubleshoot production issues, and implement solutions to minimize downtime and maintain productivity.
  • Ensure compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), GMP requirements, safety policies, and quality standards.
  • Collaborate closely with Maintenance, Quality, Planning, and Warehouse teams to resolve production challenges and maintain workflow.
  • Conduct shift handoffs, communicate production status, and provide detailed updates on operational performance.
  • Maintain accurate production documentation, shift reports, and manufacturing records.
  • Support Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, standardize processes, and reduce waste.
  • Serve as the primary operational leader during second shift, making real-time decisions to keep production running safely and efficiently.


Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required.

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 3-5+ years of manufacturing experience in a chemical, ink, coatings, paint, pharmaceutical, food, plastics, or similar batch process manufacturing environment.
  • Previous experience as a Lead, Team Lead, Supervisor, or equivalent leadership role.
  • Experience with batch manufacturing and production scheduling is strongly preferred.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills with the ability to effectively coach and develop employees.
  • Proven problem-solving and decision-making abilities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement principles.
