Overview

Responsibilities

Perform blood draws using straight or butterfly needles, ensuring patient comfort and sample quality

Explain specimen collection procedures to patients courteously and clearly

Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens according to established protocols

Maintain accurate records of specimen collection, storage, and transport

Ensure proper specimen storage, including temperature control and appropriate labeling

Update patient information and verify laboratory requisition forms for accuracy

Package specimens securely for transport to the laboratory

Comply with OSHA and environmental regulations, including wearing appropriate PPE

Participate in annual training sessions and support laboratory safety standards

Assist with lab-related inquiries and manage specimen-related documentation

Required Skills

Proven experience performing blood draws and specimen collection

Familiarity with laboratory procedures related to specimen processing and documentation

Excellent attention to detail when labeling and handling specimens

Strong communication skills to explain procedures to patients clearly

Ability to operate basic laboratory equipment such as centrifuges

Understanding of infection control practices and safety protocols

Additional Skills & Requirements

Certification or licensure as a phlebotomist is preferred but not mandatory

High school diploma or equivalent required; health-related training or experience is a plus

Availability to work a weekly schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday (8am–5pm), Thursday (10am–5pm), and every other Saturday (10am–2pm)

Familiarity with OSHA and DEP regulations related to laboratory work

Ability to lift and move specimens and supplies as needed
