Travel RN – MedSurg/Telemetry

Location: Shelby, NC
Shift: 12-Hour Nights (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Hours: 36 Hours/Week
Contract: Travel Assignment

About the Facility

Join a 241-bed acute care hospital and Level III Trauma Center recognized as a Certified Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center. This facility provides a collaborative, patient-centered environment with strong interdisciplinary support.

Unit Overview
  • 32-bed Medical-Surgical/Telemetry unit

  • Average daily census: 32 patients

  • First-time travelers accepted

  • Traveler's permanent residence must be at least 50 miles from the facility

Patient Population

Care for a diverse Med/Surg-Tele patient population, including:

  • Stroke

  • Respiratory illnesses (Flu, Pneumonia, COVID-19)

  • Renal failure

  • Peritoneal dialysis

  • Wound care patients

  • General medical and telemetry patients

Required Experience & Certifications

Experience:

  • Minimum 18 months of recent Med/Surg-Tele RN experience

Required Certifications:

  • Active RN License

  • BLS

  • ACLS

  • NIHSS

Required Clinical Skills

Candidates should have experience with:

  • Cardiac rhythm interpretation

  • Non-titrating cardiac drips (Cardizem, Amiodarone)

  • Wound care

  • Drain and tube management

  • Peripheral IV insertion

  • Central line management

  • General Medical-Surgical and Telemetry nursing skills

Unit Support
  • Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs)

  • IV/Vascular Access Team

  • Phlebotomy services

  • 24/7 Respiratory Therapy

  • 24/7 Hospitalists

  • 24/7 Intensivists

  • Dedicated Telemetry Monitoring

  • Virtual Nursing Program for patient monitoring, medication verification, and admission/discharge support

Technology
  • EMR: Epic

  • Electronic Medication Dispensing System

  • IV Pumps

  • Telemetry Monitoring Equipment

Scheduling & Expectations
  • 12-hour Night Shift (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)

  • Every other weekend rotation

  • Travelers are expected to work 75% of major holidays

  • Up to 6 days of Requested Time Off (RTO) may be approved at submission (excluding holidays)

Floating
  • Floating required within Region 3 based on staffing needs and within scope of practice.

  • If floated between facilities during a shift, travel time is paid and the traveler remains on the clock.

Orientation
  • Hospital New Employee Orientation (NEO)

  • Two days of departmental orientation

Additional Information
  • Navy blue scrubs

  • Free on-site parking

  • Possibility of low census call with callback requirements
