Perform general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department, including presorting, centrifugation, aliquoting, and imaging/microfilming of specimens.
Pickup and deliver processed specimens to the appropriate areas in a timely manner.
Maintain accurate data entry with the ability to enter up to 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.
Ensure all functions are performed with confidence, accuracy, and in accordance with quality standards.
Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work area.
Support compliance with laboratory testing regulations and changing test requirements.
Work on the night shift with flexibility to cover weekends, holidays, on-call, and OT as needed.
Communicate effectively with team members and other departments to meet departmental goals.
Required Skills
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to learn and understand specimen types and testing procedures.
Effective communication skills with all levels of staff.
Basic computer knowledge, particularly data entry skills.
Ability to work efficiently in a production environment under time constraints.
Additional Skills & Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Prior laboratory or specimen processing experience preferred but not required; medical terminology knowledge is a plus.
Experience in a hospital or clinical laboratory setting is beneficial.
Ability to work night shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overtime if necessary.
Comfortable working in a biohazard environment and practicing good safety habits.
Flexibility and adaptability to accommodate daily changes and varying demands.
