Job Description
A growing company is seeking a Joint Interest Billing Accountant to join its accounting team. This position will be responsible for processing and analyzing joint interest billings, ensuring compliance with Joint Operating Agreements (JOAs), reconciling partner accounts, and supporting month-end close activities. The ideal candidate will have experience within upstream oil & gas accounting and a strong understanding of JIB, COPAS guidelines, and owner relations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and process monthly Joint Interest Billings (JIB) for operated properties.
  • Review and allocate lease operating expenses (LOE), drilling costs, workovers, capital expenditures, and other joint venture costs.
  • Ensure billings comply with Joint Operating Agreements (JOAs) and COPAS standards.
  • Reconcile JIB receivable and payable accounts and investigate outstanding balances.
  • Research and resolve owner and partner inquiries related to operating expenses and billings.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
  • Assist with AFE (Authorization for Expenditure) tracking and capital project accounting.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Land, Revenue Accounting, and Production Accounting teams to ensure accurate cost allocation.
  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
  • Assist with audit requests and internal control compliance initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to improve billing processes and reporting efficiency.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of JIB or oil & gas accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of upstream oil & gas accounting principles.
  • Understanding of JOAs, COPAS guidelines, and ownership structures.
  • Experience with industry software such as OGSYS, Excalibur, SAP, WolfePak, EnergyLink, Quorum, or BOLO.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and lookups.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
Pay Details: $70,000.00 to $80,000.00 per year
