A fulfilling contract opportunity is available for an experienced Teacher of the Visually Impaired who is passionate about supporting students' success in a virtual school environment. This full-time position runs from August 3, 2026, through May 27, 2027, following the local school calendar. You’ll play a vital role in facilitating and interpreting the unique needs of visually impaired students, serving as a subject matter expert and advocate through direct services, material preparation, staff training, and ongoing partnership with educational teams.

What we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree and active certification in teaching students with visual impairments
  • Current licensure from the Louisiana Department of Education and licensed in your state of residence
  • At least 3 years of demonstrable experience in elementary, secondary, or special education settings, ideally with experience in Louisiana schools
  • In-depth knowledge of assistive technology and Braille instruction; experience providing training to students and staff
  • Teletherapy experience and familiarity with orientation and mobility training (preferred)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with effective written and verbal communication skills
  • High level of professionalism, organizational skills, and disciplined decision-making
  • Self-starter able to manage competing priorities and motivate others
  • Completion of required drug screening, fingerprinting, and credentialing processes
  • One professional reference on file; liability insurance coverage

Key role responsibilities:

  • Provide direct services to students in virtual individual and group settings
  • Collaborate with general educators to ensure instructional materials are accessible and tailored
  • Offer in-service training and ongoing support for school personnel
  • Communicate with the Louisiana Department of Education and district contacts
  • Obtain appropriate materials and assistive technology for students
  • Perform additional duties related to IDEA support as needed
