Mechanical Construction Estimator

Location: Fremont CA, or Palo Alto CA, or Lathrup CA

Duration: 6 months, contract - to hire

Pay: $50 - $70/ HR


About the Opportunity
We are seeking a Mechanical Construction Estimator to support large-scale industrial and manufacturing construction projects. This individual will play a key role in execution-phase estimating, partnering closely with project managers and field teams to provide cost forecasting, change order pricing, productivity analysis, and value engineering support throughout the project lifecycle.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and price change orders while assessing cost, schedule, and project impacts.
  • Perform cost forecasting, Estimate at Completion (EAC) updates, and budget variance analysis.
  • Monitor construction productivity, identify cost risks, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Review engineering drawings, specifications, and P&IDs to evaluate project scope and constructability.
  • Complete material takeoffs using BIM models and support procurement efforts.
  • Support risk management activities and maintain project cost contingencies.
  • Lead value engineering exercises and provide rapid cost comparisons for design and execution alternatives.
  • Create scenario-based estimates to support schedule recovery plans and execution strategy decisions.


Qualifications

  • 5+ years of construction estimating experience with a focus on mechanical, electrical, or MEP projects.
  • Experience with mechanical systems including piping, plumbing, process piping, utilities, or related scopes.
  • Strong understanding of construction cost controls, forecasting, change management, and variance analysis.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and P&IDs.
  • Experience performing quantity takeoffs and developing conceptual and detailed estimates.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and problem-solving skills.


Preferred Experience

  • Industrial, manufacturing, semiconductor, pharmaceutical, chemical processing, or large-scale commercial construction projects.
  • BIM-based takeoff experience.
  • Experience supporting projects during active construction rather than solely preconstruction estimating.
