Insight Global is seeking a Hydrovac Diesel Mechanic for a leading industrial services client specializing in vacuum excavation and hydrovac operations. This role is critical to maintaining a high-performing fleet of specialized trucks and heavy equipment, ensuring safe and efficient field operations. The ideal candidate is a hands-on mechanic with strong diagnostic skills who thrives in both shop and field environments. This position offers the opportunity to work on unique hydrovac equipment while playing a key role in minimizing downtime and supporting critical infrastructure and construction projects.
Duties & Responsibilities Include:
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel-powered hydrovac trucks and heavy equipment
- Perform preventative maintenance (fluid checks, greasing, belts, hoses, safety checks)
- Troubleshoot and resolve equipment failures in the shop and in the field
- Respond to emergency repair calls and minimize operational downtime
- Maintain parts inventory, tools, and service schedules
- Document and track service records, inspections, and compliance logs
- Support safety audits and regulatory inspections
- Operate tools, welding equipment, and diagnostic software
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment
- Travel occasionally to job sites and work in challenging field conditions
- Must Haves:
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in diesel truck or heavy equipment repair
- Strong mechanical knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems
- Experience using diagnostic tools and scan equipment
- Ability to inspect, diagnose, and repair heavy equipment and commercial trucks
- Experience performing major repairs and preventative maintenance (PMs)
- Ability to troubleshoot breakdowns in both shop and field environments
- Experience maintaining service records and inspection logs
- Valid driver’s license
Nice to Haves: (Not Requirements)
- Experience working on hydrovac / vacuum trucks or vacuum excavation equipment
- Experience with Freightliner chassis
- Experience with Allison transmissions
- Knowledge of DOT compliance regulations for commercial vehicles
- Willingness or ability to obtain a CDL (Class B or higher)
- Experience with welding equipment and hydraulic systems testing
