Insight Global is seeking a Hydrovac Diesel Mechanic for a leading industrial services client specializing in vacuum excavation and hydrovac operations. This role is critical to maintaining a high-performing fleet of specialized trucks and heavy equipment, ensuring safe and efficient field operations. The ideal candidate is a hands-on mechanic with strong diagnostic skills who thrives in both shop and field environments. This position offers the opportunity to work on unique hydrovac equipment while playing a key role in minimizing downtime and supporting critical infrastructure and construction projects.

Duties & Responsibilities Include:

  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel-powered hydrovac trucks and heavy equipment
  • Perform preventative maintenance (fluid checks, greasing, belts, hoses, safety checks)
  • Troubleshoot and resolve equipment failures in the shop and in the field
  • Respond to emergency repair calls and minimize operational downtime
  • Maintain parts inventory, tools, and service schedules
  • Document and track service records, inspections, and compliance logs
  • Support safety audits and regulatory inspections
  • Operate tools, welding equipment, and diagnostic software
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Travel occasionally to job sites and work in challenging field conditions
  • Must Haves:
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in diesel truck or heavy equipment repair
  • Strong mechanical knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems
  • Experience using diagnostic tools and scan equipment
  • Ability to inspect, diagnose, and repair heavy equipment and commercial trucks
  • Experience performing major repairs and preventative maintenance (PMs)
  • Ability to troubleshoot breakdowns in both shop and field environments
  • Experience maintaining service records and inspection logs
  • Valid driver’s license

Nice to Haves: (Not Requirements)

  • Experience working on hydrovac / vacuum trucks or vacuum excavation equipment
  • Experience with Freightliner chassis
  • Experience with Allison transmissions
  • Knowledge of DOT compliance regulations for commercial vehicles
  • Willingness or ability to obtain a CDL (Class B or higher)
  • Experience with welding equipment and hydraulic systems testing
