Systems Engineer III (Location: Chantilly, VA area) Job Description The Systems Engineer plays a crucial role in the development, integration, and maintenance of complex systems and technologies used in defense and aerospace applications. Job Responsibilities *System Design and Development: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and develop system architectures, subsystems, and components for defense and aerospace systems. This involves understanding and analyzing system requirements, conducting feasibility studies, and creating design specifications. *System Integration: Coordinate and oversee the integration of various subsystems, components, and technologies to ensure proper functionality and interoperability. This includes conducting system testing, troubleshooting issues, and implementing corrective measures. *System Lifecycle Management: Support system lifecycle management activities, including system upgrades, configuration management, and maintenance planning. Monitor system performance, assess operational issues, and propose improvements or enhancements. *Requirements Management: Define, document, and manage system requirements throughout the entire development lifecycle. This involves capturing stakeholder needs, analyzing and allocating requirements, and maintaining traceability between system elements. *Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Identify potential risks and uncertainties associated with system design, integration, and operation. Develop and implement strategies to mitigate risks, ensure system safety, and enhance reliability. *Technical Documentation: Prepare and maintain accurate and comprehensive technical documentation, including system specifications, design documents, test plans, and user manuals. Job Requirements: *A minimum of 7 years’ experience working in a similar systems engineering capacity. Education: A bachelor's or master’s degree in engineering, preferably in a relevant field such as Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Systems Engineering, Computer or Software Engineering. Advanced degrees or certifications may be preferred for senior or specialized positions. Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of systems engineering principles, methodologies, and best practices. *Familiarity with Defense and Aerospace industry standards, regulations, and specifications. Knowledge of relevant technologies, such as avionics, sensors, communication systems, and software integration. *Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to analyze complex system requirements, identify potential issues or risks, and propose innovative solutions. Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills to address integration challenges and ensure system performance. *Experience with Computer Systems Integration and Test experience.
