Job Description
Seeking an experienced Teacher for the Visually Impaired to provide virtual instructional support to students for the 2026-2027 school year. This contract opportunity enables you to help create accessible learning environments, collaborate with dedicated educators, and make a direct impact on the lives of visually impaired students. The role runs from August 3, 2026, through May 27, 2027, with a full-time schedule of 35 hours per week, aligning with the school calendar.
What You'll Do:
- Deliver direct and individualized services for visually impaired students across assigned age groups.
- Facilitate assessment of students’ needs and liaise with school personnel to ensure proper accommodations and modifications.
- Obtain and prepare specialized textbooks, educational resources, and materials suitable for visually impaired learners.
- Provide Braille instruction and mentor staff regarding assistive technology and accessible formats.
- Maintain collaborative communication with general education teachers, administrators, and educational service agencies.
- Conduct in-service training for school staff to promote an inclusive learning experience.
- Document progress, maintain compliance with state and local regulations, and communicate regularly with the Louisiana Department of Education.
- Perform additional responsibilities as designated by school leadership.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and active Visually Impaired Certification.
- Certified with the Louisiana Department of Education, and in your state of residence if different.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in elementary, secondary, or special education within a school setting.
- Expertise in assistive technology and Braille instruction.
- Familiarity with orientation and mobility training preferred.
- Demonstrated record of raising student achievement and navigating challenging educational contexts.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Teletherapy experience required.
- Valid liability insurance; ability to pass drug screening and fingerprinting.
