Job Description
Empower young learners and make a difference in a supportive educational environment as a Special Education Teacher working with elementary and middle school students. Located near Morganton, NC, this contract position offers the opportunity to work in close-knit classrooms with robust support staff, ensuring every child receives individualized attention and care.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid credentials or licensure in Special Education (or eligibility to obtain)
- Experience supporting students with diverse learning needs, especially in a classroom setting
- Strong communication skills to collaborate with paraprofessionals and related service providers
- Comfort with providing toileting assistance; experience is a plus
- Familiarity with safety protocols, especially in relation to medical and behavioral needs
- Adaptability and a commitment to inclusive education
Role Responsibilities:
Elementary Classroom:
- Teach and manage a classroom of 6 students with mild behavioral needs
- Provide toileting assistance as needed; no feeding required
- Benefit from support provided by a Teaching Assistant and a Behavior Technician
- Create and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) to foster academic and personal growth
Middle School Classroom:
- Lead instruction for 11 students, with varying needs
- Assist students requiring toileting support; one student is G-tube fed (feeding tube experience helpful but not required)
- Work alongside a team that includes a fellow teacher, three full-time Teaching Assistants, and a dedicated 1:1 aide
- Ensure the well-being, safety, and engagement of all students
