Publications Lead (Contractor - Flexible Support Role)
Job Description
Remote | Cell Therapy Therapeutic Area | 6–12 Month Contract (potential extension) | $45.32/hr
Client: Gilead Sciences
About the Role
We're looking for an experienced Publications Lead to join Gilead Sciences' Medical Affairs/Publications team on a contract basis, supporting scientific publications within the Cell Therapy portfolio during a high-priority period. You'll work alongside existing Publications Leads to provide additional leadership, bandwidth, and flexibility across the portfolio — an ideal fit for a seasoned publications professional who can embed quickly, own key deliverables independently, and flex across priorities to keep scientific communication moving.
What You'll Do
Flexible Publication Leadership
- Partner with existing Publications Leads on delivery of publication plans across priority programs
- Step in to lead specific publications, workstreams, or assets as needed
- Provide added bandwidth during peak periods (congress timelines, key data readouts)
End-to-End Publication Execution
- Lead development and execution of manuscripts, abstracts, posters, and presentations
- Manage the full publication lifecycle — planning through submission and post-publication activities
- Track milestones and maintain publication trackers/calendars
- Ensure timely, high-quality outputs aligned to agreed timelines
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Medical Affairs, Clinical, HEOR, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment
- Interface directly with authors, investigators, and external experts
- Support publication planning discussions and decision-making
Vendor & Project Oversight
- Direct medical writing agencies and review deliverables for scientific quality
- Manage timelines, risks, and competing priorities across multiple deliverables
Compliance & Quality
- Ensure adherence to ICMJE, GPP, and internal publication policies
- Maintain scientific rigor and accuracy across all outputs
- Support audit-ready documentation
What You Bring
- Advanced degree (PhD, PharmD, MD, or MSc) in life sciences
- 5-7+ years of experience in medical publications within pharma/biotech
- Strong working knowledge of publication guidelines (ICMJE, GPP)
- Ability to operate independently with minimal onboarding
- Strong prioritization skills and ability to manage parallel workstreams
- Comfort stepping into partially developed, in-flight projects
- Clear, pragmatic communication in a compliance-driven environment
- Strong attention to detail and quality mindset
