Teacher of Visually Impaired in New Orleans, LA

A unique contract opportunity is available for a dedicated Teacher of the Visually Impaired to support students near New Orleans through a robust teletherapy program. This full-time assignment runs from August 3, 2026, through May 27, 2027, aligning with the academic calendar and offering 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday. You will be instrumental in equipping visually impaired students with the tools and instruction needed for academic success while ensuring ongoing collaboration with other educators and adherence to specialized requirements.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree and active certification in visual impairment are mandatory.
• Must hold an active Louisiana Department of Education credential and current licensure in your home state.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in elementary, secondary, and/or special education, with preference for individuals familiar with Louisiana school settings.
• Proficiency in using assistive technology for the visually impaired and the ability to provide Braille instruction.
• Experience delivering teletherapy and a clear professional reference.
• Liability insurance and the ability to clear a district drug screen and fingerprint background check.
• Familiarity with orientation and mobility training is a plus.

Responsibilities:

• Facilitate services and assess needs for visually impaired students across assigned locations.
• Provide direct and consultative services, including training for staff and ensuring access to appropriate materials and supports.
• Maintain consistent communication with classroom teachers and the Louisiana Department of Education.
• Prepare accessible learning resources and leverage assistive technology effectively.
• Meet all district, state, and teletherapy program compliance requirements.
